IMG_1047As flood waters continue to recede and residents begin to make their way back into their communities, assessments are now underway to connect Disaster Relief volunteers with needs. Many states have been affected by flooding include Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

Alabama has been assigned to work in cooperation with other state conventions in the pre-assigned Monroe area of northeast Louisiana. I have communicated with other state disaster relief directors and with Louisiana leadership to coordinate what may well prove to be a lengthy response effort for what has been labeled as epic flooding across the state.

We have been asked to provide mudout teams and equipment to include shower and laundry units. The Chilton Association D/R unit deployed early on the morning of Wednesday, March 16 to begin operations. Other teams from north Alabama have been placed on ALERT and volunteers are making preparations to respond. One shower unit and one laundry unit will depart Thursday, March 17, and will remain in operation for the foreseeable future to support teams and residents.
