Minister of Music Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Minister of Music
REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor
JOB STATUS: Part-time, Exempt
PURPOSE: To provide overall direction and vision of the worship and music programs by
leading people to the heart of God. To provide spiritual leadership to staff and volunteers.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE MINISTER OF MUSIC:
1. Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is evident in his/her
witness, lifestyle and service;
2. Know within his/her heart that they have been called of God to serve in this capacity;
3. Be in good standing with the Church where their current membership resides;
4. Support faithfully the Church through his/her attendance, intercessory prayer for the
Church, dedicated service and Biblical giving;
5. Be in agreement with the doctrinal beliefs, teachings and vision of South Luverne
Baptist Church;
6. Understand that the Minister of Music reports to the Senior Pastor, as immediate
supervisor, in regard to Church ministry responsibilities;
7. Be willing to cooperate in a reasonable and respectable manner with the leadership
of the Church, the membership of the Church and the volunteers in which they are
leading;
8. Realize the vital importance of the position of the Minister of Music within the
Church, which is to be respected and not to be taken lightly;
9. Be willing to accept the duties as outlined under the “Responsibilities of the Minister
of Music ” found in the Minister of Music Job Description;
10. Understand that the Church Budget Committee recommends the salary for the
position of Minister of Music and that it is voted on and approved by the Church
membership.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MINISTER OF MUSIC:
1. Coordinate, train, and supervise all music ministry and worship staff;
2. Be actively involved in prayer, planning and preparation of all types of worship
activities;
3. Lead worship services on Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night, and
any other SLBC services as directed by the Senior Pastor;
4. Recruit and develop volunteers to expand the worship service;
5. Ensure that all church musical instruments are tuned and operating properly;
6. Provide leadership for the media booth by recruiting and training volunteers;
7. Provide leadership and oversight for the children’s music program by recruiting and
supporting volunteers;
8. Submit an annual budget for needs of the music program;
9. Submit the order of worship to the Administrative Assistant for printing each week;
10. Provide leadership and direct the weekly choir practice;
11. Seek God’s guidance in prayer, with direction from the Senior Pastor, in providing
special worship emphasis at Christmas and Easter.
SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess organizational, administrative, and musical skills;
2. Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including team leadership
and conflict management and resolution skills;
3. Have the knowledge and capacity to work with a wide variety of musical styles and
formats.
4. Understand and support the Baptist Faith and Message;
5. Be able to effectively train, motivate, lead, and manage others;
Be familiar with various musical instruments and sound equipment;
6. Possess a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and PowerPoint or similar
presentation software.
EDUCATION DESIRED:
Sufficient musical education and training to perform duties and responsibilities.
CONTINUING EDUCATION DESIRED:
At least five (5) hours annually in job related area
