The Mission Isn’t Canceled – You’ve Just Been Reassigned

Summer is here. For me, this time of year brings great excitement of students serving across the globe.

This year is different. This COVID-19 world has brought discouragement, questions and confusion. We have had to adjust to a new normal.

Many things — such as graduations, birthday parties and summer mission journeys — have been changed, postponed or canceled. Making plans to do anything has become extremely difficult.

Since March, we’ve been working through contingency plans for student summer mission opportunities. Those plans continue to change.

Throughout this journey, we’ve been reminded of the simple truth that The Mission Isn’t Canceled.

God has called us to be faithful to our role in the Great Commission here, there and everywhere.

Over the summer, One Mission Students social media channels will feature encouragement from:

  • missionary partners who would have hosted students this summer.
  • student missionaries, some reassigned to missions projects here in Alabama and some serving at home or at a summer job.

This campaign will encourage students and others to remember that — even though things are different and perhaps very different from the way we planned: The Mission Isn’t Canceled: You’ve Just Been Reassigned!

As we begin this campaign, let me be the first to offer encouragement from one of my favorite verses of Scripture, “I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Phil. 1:6 CSB).

God is still at work, and my excitement to see and hear stories of how he works in our reassignments is growing daily.

Let us move forward confident of his work, even amid this pandemic. Let us move forward confident of his work, even in this new assignment.

Follow One Mission Students on social media and join us in praying for God to work in mighty ways in this reassignment. #OMSReassigned
