Seeing God in the Small Things

Today’s guest blog post is from Brittany Jackson, a student at Auburn University Montgomery. She and other college students from Alabama are serving in the ForColumbus effort in Columbus, OH during this years Southern Baptist Convention.

It has been an awesome experience being able to see God at work in many situations already in Columbus. Through an opportunity to do yard work for a sweet lady named Ms. Winnie Jackson, the Lord not only used us to minister to her but also for her to minister to us. Ms. Winnie was so thankful to have her yard cleaned because she would not have been able to do it on her own. It was beautiful for us to bless her with that, but her blessing to us came when she was thanking us.

As she was thanking us she discussed with us her Bible study of Romans 12 at her church. Romans 12:1 says, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship” (ESV).

We discussed something that Indian missionary and martyr Sadhu Sundar Singh, once wrote: “It is easy to die for Christ. It is hard to live for him.” This statement is true but sad. Many Christians live in areas where their daily mindset is that they could die for their faith today, but we hesitate to share our faith with the people we come in contact with each day out of fear. I am thankful that not only are we able to minister to the people of Columbus, but that they are also able to minister to us.
