I was honored to preach the Gospel this morning at the New Beginnings Church between Sylacauga and Childersburg. The pastor/planter is Nathan Green who is from the area and is doing an excellent job of pulling together a core group for the launching of this new church. They are currently meeting in an empty camper/RV sales office on US Highway 280. It is a great location and they are planning a soft launch on October 6.

There is not too much unusual about this, as I preach somewhere almost every Sunday and often in new churches, since I am the lead church planting strategist for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions. However, I do not always get a text from the planter like the one I received just as I was arriving home. It read, “Just wanted to let you know just gotta call from a man who was in the service.  He said that the message you brought today made him realize how lost he was and why we love them so much, ‘JESUS’ AND IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE!”

This is why we plant churches, so that people who would not have had the opportunity to come to know our Lord will hear the Gospel in their own heart language.  New churches baptize 10.7 people for every 100 members in their first year and the average SBC church baptizes 2.3 people per 100 members. Today truly reminds me why we do what we do!
