Principle Function
Shades Crest Baptist Church is a multi-generational church focused on equipping members to serve and glorify God. The Minister to Senior Adults is a part time ministerial role (15 hours per week) responsible for providing pastoral care, leadership on programming, and opportunities for spiritual development for adults 65 and older. This position works under the guidance of the Senior Pastor.
Responsibilities
• Foster relationships with all ages of senior adults to minister to them at their current stage of life. This could be adults who are still working in their career, recently retired, those who are caring for their parents, and senior adults who are experiencing temporary or long-term health issues.
• Create opportunities for the living out “multi-generation” in the church with cross generational activities focused on learning and serving together both within the church and in the community and abroad. Facilitate the inclusion of senior adults in church wide mission opportunities as well as senior adult geared opportunities for service.
• Provide opportunities for spiritual growth including Bible studies, speakers, small group activities, etc.
• Personal visits in homes, hospitals, senior care and nursing facilities
• Phone calls, notes, and other meaningful contact
• Involving all generations in ministry to our Senior Adults
• Bereavement ministry, including ministry following a death; helping to plan funeral
services and participating as the family requests, often in partnership with other ministers, including the Senior Pastor
• Counseling and conversations regarding matters of importance to Senior Adults
• Coordinate activities that enrich the lives of Senior Adults including senior adult choir, local
daytrips as well as overnight activities, recreational activities in the FLC, bringing in speakers on
pertinent topics, book discussions, etc.
• Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor
