Shiloh Baptist Church, Sardis, AL, is prayerfully seeking a full-time pastor. Founded over 200 years ago, our congregation meets in a beautiful historic building on a countryside hill. Located in a rural area of central Alabama, we have relatively mild winters, bountiful wildlife, and peaceful lakes and rivers. Hunters and fishermen love our area. It is also a great place to raise children with both public and private school options. While we are rural, larger towns are within an hour driving distance.
A little over a year ago, our pastor of 20 plus years resigned from his position. Prior to COVID, we were running approximately 75-80 in Sunday School and 85-100 in Worship Service. Sunday nights and Wednesday nights were times of Bible study including a Wednesday night meal. WMU, Mission Friends, GAs, and RAs were all active. When COVID hit, we were virtual for a while, then began Sunday morning worship service with appropriate masks and social distancing. We also provided members an option of listening to the sermon from the parking lot by tuning into a designated radio station. We eventually added back Sunday School after the worship service. Our Wednesday nights services have resumed but we are currently not meeting on Sunday nights.
We are a Southern Baptist congregation and a part of the West Central Alabama Baptist Association. We strongly affirm the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message Statement. In June of this year, we participated in a church revitalization program. We identified our core values and created a Mission Statement for our congregation. We have many opportunities in our area for ministry and outreach. We need a pastor to lead us in these endeavors.
The ideal candidate would be a man called by God to lead Shiloh during this time in history. He would exemplify the qualifications set out in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. He would have a thorough understanding of the Bible with the ability to interpret, clarify, explain, and apply scripture. He would be expected to spend ample time in Bible Study and sermon preparation, to preach on Sundays, to lead Wednesday night prayer services, and administer ordinances when scheduled. He should have strong interpersonal skills as he works with the staff, Deacon Board, and Church Leadership Team to organize and administer all church activities. Compassion and patience are essential qualities to comfort, encourage and motivate our church members as well as reaching out to the lost in our community.
