Director of Children’s Ministry Job Description
Southside Baptist Church, Greenville, AL
Status – Full Time, Salaried
Reports to Senior Pastor
Relationships: Ministerial Staff, Children’s Leadership Team
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in early childhood and/or Christian Education (preferred)
• Two years’ experience in Christian Education or equivalent (preferred)
• Demonstrate a love for children and a passion to see them become followers of Jesus
• Be able to perform light to moderate physical activities

Summary – Principal Function
The Director of Children’s Ministry is responsible to the Senior Pastor for leading in planning, coordinating, directing, and evaluating the children’s educational ministry of the church for children ages birth through 6th grade.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions
(Note: All programs, material, and curriculum used will have approval of Senior Pastor)
• Develop Preschool and Children’s programming to further the vision and goals of the church.
• Manage and continually recruit, train, and equip volunteers for all children’s programming/events.
• Communicate with volunteers and parents through text, phone calls, email, mailing and handouts.
• Purchase church approved supplies/curriculum programming.
• Plan and implement teacher/volunteers’ schedules.
• Provide appropriate activities and training for parents.
• Promote and encourage attendance of Christian camps and retreats.
• Ensure all volunteers have completed backgrounds checks and any necessary safety training.
• Develop, implement, and coordinate all children’s outreach events and activities.
• Prepare an annual budget for needs of the children’s program.
• Keep informed on the latest material and methods related to children’s work.
• Perform other duties as requested by the Pastor.

The following competencies are required to fulfill the essential functions of the Director of Children’s Ministry and will be reviewed annually:
• Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and demonstrates, by their lifestyle, a commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
• Must be like minded in theology and share the beliefs upheld by Southside Baptist Church and the Southern Baptist Convention.
• Must be a team player with a flexible schedule, able to lead and coordinate ministries, and oversee volunteers.
• Must be called by God to serve, possessing a love for God’s Word and His people as the spiritual gifts to perform various responsibilities of the position.
• Must have adequate training, or be pursuing training, and have a desire for continued education in related field.
• Must have practical ministry experience in related field.
