Vision
Primary responsibility for congregational care would fall under the supervision and implementation of the Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care (APPC). The APPC would report directly to the Sr. Pastor. The APPC would also be responsible for ministry to Retired/Senior Adults (Encore) and the assimilation of new members into the FBCO faith family. Administrative support for pastoral care would be through the Senior Pastor’s ministry assistant, and for Encore through the current senior adult ministry assistant.
 
Duties
1.     Provide direct ministry to those hospitalized in local and regional hospitals, especially at times of surgical procedures and emergencies. The APPC would become the primary staff member responsible for emergency/critical situations related to the FBCO family.
 
2.     Coordinate the pastoral staff team utilizing those who are gifted in pastoral care as resources (i.e. rotating schedule), especially when the APPC is absent. Staff would be expected to respond with follow up ministry as appropriate directly to individuals within the group/groups for which they are responsible.
 
3.     Provide direct ministry and support to families of church members at the time of the death of a family member.
 
4.     Keep the Senior Pastor informed regarding deaths and coordinate funerals, which may involve other staff members. This would include the Compassion Team that helps provide a bereavement meal.
 
5.     Provide additional ministry in the form of letters, phone calls, or other media contact to those church members in the death of extended family.
 
6.     Retires/Senior Adult Ministry (Encore)
Lead a ministry to senior adults to include missions and ministry opportunities, spiritual development, personal contact, and social development (trips, fellowships, etc.) Details for this ministry would evolve over time.
 
7.      Implement an assimilation process that facilitates the following:
New members should be able to identify their spiritual gifts. 
New members should be involved in at least one but preferably several roles/tasks/ministries in the church, which utilize their spiritual gift(s).
New members should be actively involved in a Sunday School class. 
New members should demonstrate a regular financial commitment to the church. 
New members should attend worship services regularly. 

***This position can/should adjust the assimilation responsibilities once he has had time to evaluate the process.

Expectations
1.     Work hours
a.     Recognizing the fluidity of the need, the APPC will work FT (40) hours per week. The time will be filled with direct contact through hospital visits, etc., home visits to homebound, nursing home, and assisted living residents. Additionally, hours will be spent in planning and implementing Encore ministry as well as the assimilation process.
b.     There will be no expectations for responsibilities for Sunday worship or Wednesday evening unless they pertain directly to the pastoral care or Encore ministries.
 
2.     Opportunities for outside speaking engagements, including Sundays, and consultation services are permitted. These hours would be in addition to the 40 hours expected from FBCO.
 
3.     Additional compensation for extended trips with Encore groups, mission trips, etc. will not be expected.
 
4.     Personal leave will be coordinated through the Church Administrator or his designee.
 
5.     Separation from employment by APPC or FBCO by two-week notice.
