There are 2 pieces of information important to church staff and church treasurers as we begin the new year.  See IRS.gov, then click on the news tab.

IRS mileage rate for 2018
Beginning on Jan. 1, 2018, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) will be:

  • 54.5 cents for every mile of business travel driven, up 1 cent from the rate for 2017.
  • 18 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes, up 1 cent from the rate for 2017.
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations. (This rate is for volunteer service, not for paid employees)

IRS Statement on Withholding for 2018
Employers should use the existing 2017 withholding tables during January. The IRS expects to release the 2018 tables during January to be used beginning in February. During February, many employees will see an increase in their take-home pay as a result of the tax law.
