Alabama Disaster Relief stands at-the-ready to provide ministry across the state due to holiday storms.

AL.com reports that Governor Bentley has declared a state of emergency due to excessive flash flooding. “This isn’t the typical end of December weather,” said Jason Holmes, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Birmingham. “This is a unique, significant rainfall event for this time of year. We get some severe weather this time of year, but to get this much rainfall this time of year is not typical.”

Roads and bridges have washed out in the northern and southern thirds of the state, and numerous boat rescues have been made to save residents from the rising waters.

Governor Bentley’s state of emergency order allows state agencies to easily dispatch resources to help local agencies that cannot adequately respond to the situation. As part of the order, state and local officials will assess damages as they consider seeking federal disaster aid.

Assessments for ministry will take place once flood waters recede. Please pray for first responders and families impacted by storms as Alabama D/R volunteers ready to provide help, healing and hope this Christmas season.
