North Alabama Church Library Conference will be on Saturday, Nov. 2nd at Central Baptist Church, 2801 Highway 31 South in Decatur, Alabama. It will begin with registration at 8:00 a.m., general session at 8:30 and close at 3:30 p.m. The theme for this conference is “Church Libraries—more than books on a shelf.”
Conference leaders will be Lonette Berg (Alabama Baptist Historical Commission), Sandra Fitts (LifeWay Church Library Ministry Trainer from MS), Eva Nell Hunter (LifeWay Church Library Ministry Trainer from AL), Bev League (TN Baptist Library Leader and LifeWay Church Library Ministry Trainer), Allison Maynard (Book Systems), Morlee Maynard (LifeWay Consultant for Church Libraries), Sandy Shepard (Central Baptist Church), Amanda Thompson (Central Baptist Church), Carolyn Walker ( LifeWay Church Library Ministry Trainer from GA), and Marty Woodall (Alabama Church Library consultant).
Conferences will include every aspect of church library work – administration, collection development, processing, weeding, book and Bible repair, automation with Concourse and Atriuum, promotion of all sorts, and classification and cataloging. Church history, card making, and making something useful out of the useless materials, disciple-making, and round tables on various topics will also be included.
Dr. Rob Jackson, former pastor of Central and now at the University of Mobile, will speak at the opening assembly and distributing his latest writing on discipling children,
Lisa Worthey Smith, writer, and Bible teacher from Hartselle, AL, will be our special luncheon speaker and will have several of her books for sale.
Dr. Morlee Maynard, LifeWay Consultant for Church Libraries, will explore the subject of Disciple-making and Church Libraries.
Lunch and breakfast snacks will be provided by the church. It is necessary that you register in order to make preparations for you. Needed will be a name, address, telephone number, email address if one, church name and city. Even though there is no deadline for registration, it would be helpful if it could be received by Wednesday before the conference on Saturday. This event is open to all librarians from anywhere.
