As of today, Alabama Disaster Relief volunteers continue to serve in Florida, Texas, and St. Thomas USVI. Most of our teams are serving in the Fort Myers area.
As of this evening, the plan is for our mass feeding kitchen to shut down after meals are prepared Wednesday. First Baptist Church, Trussville has provided a small unit to prepare food for volunteers.
- Through Sunday, we have served 1770 volunteer days.
- There have been 13 professions of faith out of Alabama DR work.
- These follow 115 gospel presentations, 287 Bibles distributed and over 700 tracts distributed.
- Our volunteers have prepared 115k meals.
The cleanup effort will continue for a few more weeks in the area.
We have volunteers operating the Mobile/Satsuma laundry unit still assisting survivors in Beaumont, Texas. Some of our churches are working with North End Baptist Church in Beaumont. We are working on a strategy to allow Texas to use our recently trained volunteers at this time.
The airlift kitchen is in port in St. Thomas. We have 2 volunteers there to assist in setup and operation of the kitchen.
Disaster Relief volunteers will be arriving in Puerto Rico this weekend. They will assist in preparing and distributing food. They will also assist in distributing propane stoves. The plan is to get more volunteers there to help churches serve their communities. Those plans are still unfolding.
Our volunteers have worked very hard for the last 4 weeks in Texas and Florida. While there is much to do, much has been done. I will be sharing some of the stories coming out of the response in the coming days.
We have one more training this year. It has been scheduled for months and will be in Shelby Association. Many of the classes are filling rapidly.
