SBOM opens doors at new Prattville location

For the first time since 1963, the State Board of Missions (SBOM) has a new address and a new place to call home. On January 15, SBOM officially opened its doors at 1404 Fairview Avenue in Prattville after a weeklong moving process to vacate the Montgomery location, which itself followed many months of cleaning out, [...]

Sherri Burgess to share her story

Author and speaker Sherri Burgess will share her story at a Nov. 14 dinner preceding the Tuesday evening service of the Alabama Baptist State Convention annual meeting, where her husband, Rick Burgess, co-host of “The Rick and Bubba Show” radio program, will be the featured speaker. One of the largest gatherings for a Tuesday evening session of the Alabama Baptist State Convention was in 2008 at First Baptist Church, Montgomery, when Rick Burgess, co-host of the popular radio program, “The Rick and Bubba Show,” spoke and musician Kevin Derryberry led worship. That same team returns to lead us in worship at [...]

Suddenly you’re faced with the task of finding someone who shares your birth month or who has never seen a Star Wars movie, with the goal of finishing your grid before time [...]

God’s Everlasting Arms

One of my favorite hymns has an interesting Alabama connection. Robert Morgan recounts the story in his book, “Then Sings My Soul.” One evening in 1887, Anthony Showalter, principal of a music school in Dalton, Ga., had just finished leading a singing school at a church in Hartselle, Ala. When he returned to the boardinghouse [...]

Live Streaming to You

Around 1,000 people attended the 2013 State Evangelism Conference at First Baptist Church, Trussville, Feb. 25–26, which is not unusual. What is a little different, though, is the number of people not inside the building who benefited from the inspirational music and preaching. For the second year, the conference was streamed live online, an option that [...]
